Acne and pimples: what can I do? Acne is the term for plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), pimples, and even deeper lumps (cysts or nodules) that occur on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders and upper arms. Acne affects most teenagers but adults in their 20s - even into their 40s - can also get acne. The mild acne can be upsetting and disfiguring, but when is severe, can lead to serious and permanent scarring and requires some treatment.Acne generally begins in teenage years and affects 15-20 percent of adolescents. When hormones are released during puberty, they awaken the sebaceous glands. These activated glands grow larger and start to secrete sebum or oil onto the skin surface. Demand for kwao krua among multinational pharmaceutical and cosmetic companies has been rising due to its ability to stimulate female hormone production and enlarge the breasts, relieve menopausal disorders and reduce wrinkles. ''The plant could become extinct without measures to preserve it,'' said Public Health Minister Phinij Jarusombat.
