Advanced Cosmetic Surgery Manager Mary Ryan told the Galway Independent that the past year had seen the greatest increase in procedures being carried out in Galway since the clinic opened its doors eight years ago.

Between 2004 and 2005 there was an increase of almost 24 per cent in breast augmentation, an 18 per cent increase in liposuction, a ten per cent increase in breast reduction, in addition to a ten per cent increase in tummy tucks and nose re-shaping.

Ear surgery saw the greatest increase, with the number of those undergoing surgery doubling within that timeframe.Ms Ryan said that while cosmetic surgery was once only associated with the rich and famous, it has now become quite mainstream.

“Most people in Galway tell me they are doing it for self-improvements, not vanity.
